Nelson BC Photographer:
A candid, unconventional approach to wedding, family and event photography.
Hello! I'm Bobbi Barbarich, welcome to Three Owls Studio!
Thank you for considering my perspective for your wedding photography. I focus on the genuine, emotional interactions and reactions between you, your family and your friends. My approach to wedding photography is candid and unconventional, so I can document for you the natural moments that will become your memories.
For your family photography sessions, your day-in-the-life experiences and what they reveal about your relationship are my focus. We'll spend time doing what you and your loved ones love to do, and your images will reflect the feelings you share with one another. I rarely have you sit for posed portraits, but sometimes the moment might call for pause.
Some things about me:
As a kid, I posed my animals (both stuffed and real) for my camera. I like to think my skills have advanced considerably since that time, yet I continue to enjoy shooting animals, particularly when people let their inner animal out.
I grew up in northern Alberta and relished the endless sky and whipping winds. I moved to Edmonton to pursue a Master's degree in Nutrition, and attended photography classes at night. I then moved to Nelson to live my dream of becoming a photographer, while fulfilling my need to absorb snow, rocks and vistas at any given moment.
I have a dog, Harlan, who looks like a muppet, and my partner, Jay, loves the Muppets. We recently added another muppet mutt to our mix--her name is Linda.
Jay and I got married in 2014 and it was an absolutely incredible experience, feeling so loved and loving so much. The above photo, by Jeff Newsom, is from our wedding. It captures us perfectly, and makes me happy whenever I look at it. A priceless feeling I want to share with you in your images.

I am a professional freelance photographer and writer based in British Columbia. I have photographed nearly 200 weddings, and I love every aspect of this career. I earned a Fearless Photographer award in 2015 and several Photo of the Day honours in 2017. I was later featured on Fearless Photographers for a blog (January 2018) about capturing authentic moments. I was a finalist in the 2012 and 2014 Bride Canada Photo of the Year competitions.
I cut my photography chops shooting live music, which continues to be my favourite hobby. I'm now an accomplished music photographer, shooting album and live work for bands and musicians such as the Sonics, Cam Penner, storc, BRASS, and Fu Manchu, and for festivals like Massif Music Festival, Treefort Musicfest and Sled Island.
I've written and photographed for the following publications: Reader's Digest, Canadian Geographic Travel, BC Business, Alberta Views, Up! Magazine, Kootenay Mountain Culture, various Venture Publishing magazines, entertainment weeklies, and others. I was also a contributing editor for Canadian Running Magazine for 5 years. I was once short listed for the CBC Literary Awards in creative non-fiction.
